Education - Part 5
Ever since man emerged on our planet, the beauty of nature all around him has mesmerized him. The plants, animals, mountains, lakes and rivers, and all that he sees around him during the day inspire him to start singing a song. At night, the moon and the stars and all the hosts of heaven open up a totally new vision that is absolutely breathtaking. So, at night and day, man is struck with awe at the wonder of creation made by an unseen source. His heart rejoices in this beauty and he expresses it through poetry and song.
Centralization of any system is always a good idea, as it has a number of advantages. For instance, if an organization has many branches and each of them has a copy of the company’s rules and regulations, then whenever the rules change, each of the copies also needs to be changed. But if there is just one copy in the central office, which all the other branches could access online, then all the changes would need to be made only in that single copy. This can help avoid redundancy of information and, more importantly, prevent discrepancy of information in the multiple documents.
One can often hear students complaining about their academic record. Many find the existing grading system either too subjective or too superficial and claim that it does not reflect the real abilities of a student. Personally I find it difficult to complain, as I have excellent grades in all subjects, and actually find the system quite objective. The issue that draws my attention, however, is the type of abilities reflected.
Considering all my previous intellectual experience and academic accomplishments, I would probably single out the one that would seem strangely unimportant. However, for me, mastering exactly this skill opened the whole new world of information. If I had to choose my most important academic achievement, I would choose mastering the skill of reading.
Several months ago I faced a problem. I had to make a presentation of my science project in front of a large audience of unknown people. First I felt quite enthusiastic about the experience, but soon I realized that the only thought made me feel panicky. I tried to write the text of my presentations and practice them at home imagining the audience. However, I felt it was not helpful at all. Finally, I came to the conclusion I had to take a short course in presentation skills.
The majority of society members are broadening the expectations they have for the universities. In this case people are taking into consideration values of personal human capital. The majority of people require from the higher education more concentration on the skills of transferable workplace. Students usually ask two similar questions: “Why should I go through all these university courses if they are absolutely useless for my future career?” and “What kind of job can I obtain with such a degree?” The problem is that the majority of the universities do not have such a specific aim – to prepare students for the future career. They do not take into consideration economic needs of society. Thus, students leave university buildings without skills in how to survive in the economic area of society needs.
The more I read about learning foreign language from a very early age, the more I think about whether it is necessary at all. You can come across two totally different opinions: kids do or do not need it, it is good or bad for them, it does or does not make sense.
“We don’t need no education…”,- everyone knows that Pink Floyd song. Basically it tells us about how education system ruins you personality. However, let’s not be so radical first and think about good sides of education.
Having chosen to study abroad, one should be ready to meet various communication challenges including listening difficulties. A new cultural environment and language specifics may appear to be complicated for the overall study process. Moreover, the efficiency of your educational results will strongly depend on the language you choose for the courses to be read in as well as on the extent to which you know the local academic tradition peculiarities.
Good education has already become one of the biggest life advantages. No matter what school you are studying at, there are several basic factors, which influence your academic success. They are: family background, willingness to learn, ability to learn, learning environment and some others.
