Society & Family - Part 19
Today, a lot of people sit throughout whole days in offices in front of their PCs and forget how important it is to do regular physical exercises. In fact, they have to be involved in everyone’s daily routine. Apart from doing exercises, it is important to mind what you eat during your day. The modern lifestyle of coach potatoes or fanatic office workers, which many people choose, will certainly bring about a lot of negative results. Despite the fact that everyone is aware of the bad consequences their lifestyle can bring, they do not stop leading them and eating junk food.
The concept of wealth can mean different things to different people. For some people, it is having a nice home to live in, a comfortable car to drive around town, a sufficient bank balance to meet all expenses, and more than enough money to see through life after retirement. For others, it is living in luxurious fashion in opulence and splendor with tons and tons of money at their disposal. Each person has their own specific idea of what wealth means. Their notion of wealth probably arises from their idea of what they would do if they had all the money in the world.
All the people know the melody of the Mendelssohn’s wedding march. What a thrilling moment for the bride and the groom, when its sound is in the air! Every girl from the early years dreams about it, imaging her dress and hair-do, flowers and shining smiles around, and her “Prince Charming” , of course – the best man ever. And here it comes, this sacred “YES”. She is a wife now and he is a husband. They are beginning their journey to the life full of love and happiness.
Sooner or later everyone wants to find an answer what he or she lives for. The majority of us is trying to understand the meaning of human life. During thousands of years the mankind tried to answer the question, what the meaning of life is and what life itself is – pleasure or suffering.
Religion is an integral part of the life of modern society. It is closely related to the social, economic and political areas of people’s lives. Many sociologists have been studying this area for a long time. The main reason of such a huge interest is the great influence the religion has on the main functions in society.
Although we live in the XXI century and it seems like millions of people are around, we can suddenly become stricken with a sharp pain of loneliness. But it is important to understand the difference between so close notions as “loneliness” and “being alone”. To be alone means to have no company at the moment, while the meaning of the “loneliness” lies in the fact that it can happen to you anytime, no matter where you are. You can feel lonely even if you are in the middle of one million people crowd, when you are hanging out with your friends or spending time with you family members. Being alone is a fleeting transient notion, while loneliness is one of the harshest feelings people can feel and suffer from. The problem is that loneliness can become a cause of such terrible actions, as suicide, falling into depression or even trying to hurt close people or strangers.
Nothing in the modern world and society happens without the impact of human activities. Let us look at the daily activities of an ordinary individual. When the person wakes up, he or she uses the water for hygiene purposes, then we use personal or public transport to come to the office. In the office we produce something, whether it is information or product. We still somehow and at some moment impact our surroundings. Water consumption affects nature, transportation creates pollution and our job creates certain effects on the society we live in and even on future generations that will be here after us.
When we think about pornography, we generally imagine the movies that are extremely explicit in the scenes of sexual character. Another side of pornography one can think of is the magazines like Playboy and Hustler. Pornography, however, is much wider and can be evidenced in the art, such as paintings, photos and sculptures dating centuries and centuries back.
The reason why the system of conscription (or “draft”, as it is commonly referred to in the United States) is inferior to that of volunteer or professional army is simply an economical one. It is the old and irrevocable law of economics, stating that the less you have to pay for something, the less you tend to try and use this resource wisely, irrespectively of its objective value. For you only its subjective value – what you have paid for it – is important, all the rest is the matter of little consequence.
When the name of Michael Jordan is mentioned, the first thing to cross everybody’s mind is, of course, basketball. However, it would be unforgivably primitive to describe him simply as a basketball player. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Michael Jordan represents in himself some unique or almost unique phenomenon that broadens his importance far beyond the scope of basketball and sport in general and makes him one of the most picturesque examples of the American Dream.
