Society & Family - Part 21
On September 11, 2001 people around the world witnessed one of the most tragic events during the last decades. This tragedy took place in the USA, the country of wealth, prosperity and well-being. That morning everyone in this world realized that nobody could be insured against such a horrible phenomenon like terrorism. Although things have changed since that ill-starred day and billions of dollars have gone to the defense funds, everyone is still threatened with danger of terrorism. Even those people who live far away from the United States of America do not feel save and private anymore. The words like Al-Queda and Anthrax have become an integral part of the vocabulary of every person. Now they may be the part of everyday conversation between two friends who met each other in the shop or two colleagues in the office.
Friends have already become an integral part of our everyday life and we just take it as a matter of course. But nevertheless, who can be a friend? Someone who always gives you a helping hand just when you need it, someone you know very well and can fully trust to. Very easy definition, don’t you think so?
The Mass Media is a unique feature of our modern society, a society that completely depends on information and communication. Its flow penetrates us through TV, papers, Internet and influences our actions, engagements, leisure time and even standards of life. We have a trust in the media as an authority to give us news, entertainment and education. However, it can influence the public opinion in different ways depending on who is the manipulator and what is the objective.
What does a dream mean if taken on a scale of people’s life? Apparently, it means a lot; because people are used to hold on to their dreams, to protect them from the infringements of the other people, to strongly believe that without dreams their life will be ordinary and senseless.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves”. (1 Corinthians 13:1)
When the world seems to turn upside down, when your life seems to be totally ruined – the only person we can rely upon during these tough times and the only shoulder we can cry on without any uneasiness is our friend. I got used to believe that friendship is an everlasting phenomenon and it is truly forever. I stick to the opinion, that true friendship is never-ending. Life is unpredictable and we never know what may happen tomorrow. I’ve a lot of friends but only few of them are real. We’ve gone through many difficulties together and now my heart is aching at the thought that we are living in different countries because of life circumstances.
War is, first of all, a behavior pattern that means a definite state of organized conflict between two or more social entities. The main reason for such a conflict is an attempt to be on top of hierarchy either psychological or material. Aspect of domination is basic for all wars throughout history. But all over the history war was undertaken as noble. Nowadays we can postulate war not only as undesirable but also as morally problematic issue.
Are there reasonable causes to start a war? It is obvious that the issue is deeper than it seems. Pacifists will surely announce that there are no fair reasons to start any kind of war. Other point of view lies in accepting perceived threat as possible viable reason for a war.
Socialization is the process when the person learns different aspects of life interacting with other people from his or her environment. Every individual is connected with the other people and makes all decisions in accordance with the principle “we influence those who is influencing us”.
When we talk about great and powerful people of the 20th century we name politicians, scientists, artists and even military leaders. Even their activity was sometimes destructive. And what do you know about creation and humanity? Mother Teresa – one of the names associated with the mentioned qualities.
She lived her life by heart focusing all her energy on simple but the most important issues in life: loving, helping, making. She named it as a call from God: “To serve Him among the poorest of the poor.” For more than 45 years she assisted poor, sick and orphaned throughout guiding Missionaries of Charity expansion. She got the Noble Prize and was beatified and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. She received praises from a lot of humanitarian organizations, governments and individuals and used them for promoting the principal idea of her life.
