Society & Family - Part 3
How Religious Are Young People?
In many cultures religion is considered to be a part of tradition, and as such it is seen as an integral part of social life. However, younger people are not likely to be tied to tradition, and are more prone to expose themselves to diverse cultural influences. Youth considers religion to be a practice of the elderly. This is due to the fact that people are seen to embrace religion as they age and get closer to death, thus seeking the scenario of an afterlife for comfort. Young people are introduced to religion by their parents, but many of them decide to abandon their faith later in life. Studies conducted on Protestants aged between 18 and 30 showed that seventy percent of them stopped going to church by the age of 23, despite having attended it regularly in high school (Wilson, 2009).
Father’s Role in Child’s Upbringing
It was always well-known that father is an important and very influential person for everyone, although in the past his role was often underestimated. Why it was so? Why has this situation changed? I will explain my point of view.
The standpoint that father is not so important for a child was formed first of all because children from the very moment of their birth are more attached to their mother, as they need their milk, love and care. Moreover, fathers are often busy at work, seeing their children less frequently.
Is It Better to Be the Only Child or to Have Brothers and Sisters?
Some people like being the only children, others don’t. Why? Each of them is brought up in different circumstances and situations, which influences their character greatly, as well as defines a lot in their future. So, what are the main reasons of people’s like or dislike of being raised without brothers and sisters?
Why Are People Still Superstitious?
Despite the fact that science is developing by leaps and bounds, the majority of people still have certain superstitions. Why is it so? I think that it is one of many interesting peculiarities of our mind and psychology, which are hard to explain, but still exist.
Effects of Divorce Upon Children
When people say that divorce is one of the most difficult realities for children, I agree with them, as I was one of such kids. But still, I think that it is not reasonable to continue relationships with a person whom you don’t love anymore, or even hate only because of kids. To my mind, the effect of such relationships will be even worse, and I will try to explain why.
Possible Consequences of Marijuana Legalization
Legal position of marijuana has been one of the most controversial topics for many decades. As of today, in the majority of countries possession, consumption, transfer and cultivation of cannabis is prohibited by law and results in serious consequences. Still, there are countries, in which marijuana is not only legal, but also attracts travelers from all around the world (Holland, for instance). Let us consider what consequences could be brought about by marijuana legalization and would it be reasonable to legalize it?
Why Do Many People Have Pets?
People decide to buy pets in different situations and for different reasons. Each purchase of pet has its own history and emotions behind, which is also very interesting feature of this reality. I will try to describe the most wide-spread situations and understand the major motives that drive people towards the purchase.
What Is Good Parent?
All people have their own understanding of perfect parents whom they want to become for their children. This perception is formed by many different factors, such as their own upbringing, their will and readiness to be parents, desire to study some literature on parenting and psychology, surrounding, etc. I want to present here some features that, to my mind, should each parent possess to bring up his child in a way for him to be prepared for life.
Effect of Environment on Person’s Upbringing
As soon as a person is conceived, it starts being influenced by many factors. The first 9 months the influence is filtered by mother, as the child is living and developing in her belly. Then, he comes to this world and everything changes at once. The child becomes a full-fledged member of the family and of the environment, although often adults don’t consider him to be one till the age of 3, or even later. I will try to explain why they are wrong.
Why Do I Vote?
As far as politics is concerned, society falls into two categories – those who partake in it and those who don’t. As for me, I am not the one to go to meetings, become a member of some party, or argue with other people for my beliefs. At the same time, I belong to the group that chooses to take part in the political life of the country. Why is it so? I will explain.
